Bittersweet Symphony
September 15, 2006I just came across this song Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve today and have really fallen in love with it. Made me realise how much I’m really into Blues.
Lukas Rossi sang it today on Rock Star: Supernova and that’s how I came to hear it. (By the way, Lukas has been named the lead singer for Supernova after winning the 11-week competition beating out 14 other contestants.)
The song starts with just a violin fading in. Sounds very lovely!
Here are the opening lines…
Cause it’s a bitter sweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You’re a slave to the money
Then you die
They have really touched me. They are so very true!
Richard Ashcroft has summed up most people’s lives in just a single line.
No change
I can change – 3
But I’m here in my mold – 2
But I’m a million different people
From one day to the next
I can’t change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
Very symbolic. Very deep.
Well I never pray
But tonight I’m on my knees, yeah
I need to hear some sounds that
Recognize the pain in me, yeah
The music, the lyrics, being very emotional, have really moved me.
The video features Richard Ashcroft bumping into people as he walks down the Hoxton Street, a crowded shopping area in London.

The song was also featured at the pivotal end scene in the 1999 movie Cruel Intentions.
Great lyrics. Great singing.
One of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
I’ve had it running in a loop since this morning!
Ryan Star on Rock Star: Supernova
August 31, 2006Hi there,
If you are a music lover and even if just a little bit into “Rock”, you’ll love
Rock Star: Supernova. It’s currently running it’s 2nd season with the Rock band Supernova looking for a young talented Rocker to front their band.

Last season it was Rock Star: INXS with the Rock band INXS being on the hunt. INXS picked J.D. Fortune as their lead singer and recorded their latest album called Switch. The second single released from Switch is Afterglow. A very lovely song with synth, strings and airy guitar which incidentally I’m listening to right now! Caught it’s video on VH1. Really liked the way lighting was done and that it featured the actress Estella Warren too.

Okay! Back to Rock Star: Supernova. The competition has really heated up!
Only the top 6 rockers remain. Ryan, Toby, Magni, Storm, Dilana and Lukas.
I’ve always been inclined to listening to Alt. Modern Rock more than the Classics. I’m into like a couple of Aerosmith’s but a heck lot of U2′s. But, as you go along listening, part of you easily identifies itself with the madness of Classics. Ever felt like screaming at top of your lungs? That’s what I’m talking about here!
My favorite has been Ryan Star. Yeah! That’s his middle name. Star!

But, he truly is a Star! Why? Because, the intensity with which this guy sings the songs and all that energy he exudes, it sweeps you off your feet.
If you like “Loosing My Religion” by R.E.M or “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins listen to this guy once. He’s absolutely brilliant. He gave encore performances for both these singles.
Check him out performing Loosing My Religion and In The Air Tonight live on Rock Star at YouTube.

Loosing My Religion also shows how good Ryan truly is at playing a piano. But, if you really wanna see a guy jump and rock on the top of piano check him out performing Clocks by Coldplay.

Not only is Ryan a very talented singer, a very good musician but he’s an excellent songwriter too! They say nothing beats an original performance as it truly is a window to your soul and that’s why I couldn’t help but become a fan of him when I watched him bring his trademark intensity to his orignal tune while performing Back Of Your Car. A song about making love when the world is ending!
Can’t wait to see Ryan on the record charts!
Happy Friendship’s Day
August 6, 2006Dear Friends,
A very Happy Friendship’s Day to all of you.
Well, I don’t remember if I’ve ever specially celebrated Friendship’s Day before but now I wish I had. And I wish I could this year. That’s ‘coz this year’s Friendship’s Day is different than all the ones that’ve gone past me before. I’ve got no friends around with me this time. They’ve all flown away to separate places all over the country.
It makes me sad everytime I realise that maybe I wouldn’t see them ever again. But then somebody drops this news to me that this guy has moved to New Zealand, this guy is doing MBA and that guy now works for HSBC and it all brings a big smile to me to know that they have settled and that others are about to.
And as far as Friendship’s Day is concerned, each day I meet any one of them is gonna be like one!
